Simon & Garfunkel (Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel) were an American Folk-Rock duo active from the late 1950’s to 1970.

The duo met in elementary school in 1953 and started writing together. They released ‘Hey School Girl’ in 1957 under the name Tom & Jerry then changed their name to Simon & Garfunkel in 1963 after signing with Columbia Records. They released 5 studio albums, 4 live albums and 26 singles.

In the UK the duo had one No.1 hit ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ in 1970 and two No.1 albums, ‘Bookends’ (1968) and ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ (1970).

‘Bridge Over Troubled Water' was their fifth and final studio album which spent a massive 33 weeks at number one in the UK. They sold over 25 million copies of the album worldwide. It won a Grammy for the Album of the Year. ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ the single was the last song recorded for the album and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1971. The song has been covered by artists like Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin and Peggy Lee.

Simon & Garfunkel wrote the soundtrack to the film ‘The Graduate’ in 1968 which features the single ‘Mrs. Robinson’. It won Record of the Year in the 11th Annual Grammy Awards.

The duo split in 1970 when Art Garfunkel started acting and Paul Simon started writing solo material. They have reunited many times the past and in 1993 they undertook an international tour. In 2003 they received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys.

There's one big thing that sets Forest Radio apart from our competition. We do it all for free. From the very beginning our aim was to create a radio station we would want to listen to. Twenty three years later Forest Radio is the fastest growing internet radio station in Essex. But in order for us to continue playing the good time oldies we need your help.
