Thaxted Festival 2025 

When: Over four weekends. 20 June to 13 July. Opening concert Friday 20th June.

Where: Town of Thaxted, Essex.

What happens: A variety of music from some amazing artists. Classical, jazz, folk, choirs and opera, 

Cost: Quote FOREST2025 to get 10% off tickets, just for being a Forest Radio listener.

Pipes In The Park

When: 15 June, 8am to 7pm

Where: Colchester Castle Park, High Street, Colchester, Essex, CO1 1TJ

What happens: Colchester's Lower Castle park turns into a mini Highland gathering. Pipes and drums  from the south of England perform amazing Scottish medleys.

Busk Fest - A Day of Music, Dance and Urban Art

When: Saturday 14 June.11am to 4pm

Where: The Harvey Centre, Ground Floor, Harlow.

What happens: A vibrant mix of live musical performances, breakdancing, street entertainment, and a 

hands-on spray pen art workshop (suitable for age 6+).

Art Exhibition The 2WW Home Front 

When: 05 April to 06 Sept., Mon. to Sun.10am to 4pm 

Where: Epping Forest District Museum, Waltham Abbey, EN9 1EL 

What happens: Exhibition tells story of the Home Front in the Epping Forest District through themes of War at Home, War Work, Defending the District, Service and the War's End. 

Cost: Free.

Scene By The Sea 

When: 24 May to 26 October, Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm (Closed Mon. & Tues.) Where: Beecroft Art Gallery, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 6EX 

What happens: Southend's music and culture legacy is in the spotlight with a new map and exhibition at the Beecroft Gallery in Southend featuring special guest artists.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat 

When: 17 June to 22 June 

Where: Cliffs Pavilion, Station Road, Southend, SS0 7RA 

What happens: X-Factor winner Joe McElderry stars as the roof-raising Pharaoh,

Brentwood Art Trail with Brentwood Connected 

When: Sat. 14 June

Where:   Brentwood Art Trail Pop-Up Gallery, 10 Baytree Shopping Centre, Brentwood CM14 4BX 

What happens:   Guided tours and live creative activities with artists on above days .Enjoy art from talented local artists in pop-up galleries and take part in creative activities.

Father’s Day Weekend 

When: 14 June - 15 June, 9am to 5pm. Last train leaves 2:30pm but check times for day chosen. 

Where: Audley End, Saffron Walden, CB11 4JB 

What happens: Hop aboard our enchanting train and journey through magical forest scenes, with surprises around every corner. 

Cost: Free for Dads and Grandads. Adults £14.25. Children over 92cm £14.25, under 92cm £7.15, children under 1 year and carers are free.

2 Hour Cream Tea Cruise Aboard Victoria

Reggae is a musical genre that originated from Jamaica and gained popularity in the 1960s. The genre was highly influenced by American jazz, ska, rocksteady and rhythm and blues. Usually, reggae music is off beat, has a slow tempo and is drum and bass heavy. Lyrics often were politicised and stressed the social and economic injustices in the world. The genre is often linked to Rastafarianism and has spread to countries across the world. Reggae spread to the UK in the 70s and influenced bands such as UB40, Steel Pulse and Aswad. Desmond Dekker, Bob Marley and the Wailers and UB40 are three of the most influential and successful reggae artists of all time. See below a little about each artist.
